Pre-Conference Day Trip to Isle Royale National Park

Monday, May 22nd, 2023

Take a day-trip on the Voyageur II ferry to Isle Royale National Park, the site of some of the longest-term moose studies in North America. The field trip will be based around Windigo Harbor, where Mark Romanski and other staff at Isle Royale National Park will lead small groups on a tour of the moose exclosure and an established salt lick where you might see a moose. Short programs by NPS interpreters or external researchers may also be available. Visitors will also have free time available to go for short hikes on many of the established trails in the Windigo area. See nps.gov/isro for more information about the park.

The cost is $230, which includes ferry service, National Park Service visitor fees, and a bag lunch and refreshments. Sorry, no refunds will be given after April 15, except in the event of ferry cancellation due to bad weather or mechanical issues. Since we have to charter the whole ferry, this is a pre-paid fixed expense by the conference organizers. If we do not have a sufficient interest by April 15, we will cancel the field trip and refund any field trip registrations up to that point. Space on the Isle Royale field trip will be limited to the ferry boat capacity of 45 and spots will be reserved in the order in which registrations are received.
